Alvine Engineering Promotes Tim Shimerdla to Associate Principal
Tim Shimerdla P.E., LEED AP
Alvine Engineering is honored to announce the promotion of Tim Shimerdla P.E., LEED AP to associate principal. With over 20 years of engineering experience, Tim specializes in mechanical engineering and has since become a leader in Alvine and Associates’ Des Moines office.
Tim always had a certain knack for math and science. Exploring his options in college, he worked at Omaha Public Power District, Omaha’s Metropolitan Utilities District, and Union Pacific Railroad in departments that dealt with engineering and construction. Eventually, he earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University because it allowed him to continue working in the construction field, while challenging himself to problem solve on the design side of the industry.
Making a difference in his community, both local and industry, has always been important to Tim. This is why a majority of his career has focused on healthcare and education facilities. Tim is a member of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineering (ASHRAE), a St. Pius X Catholic School Athletics Co-director, and a youth sports coach in his community. He believes that communities are ultimately built on relationships and they are especially important for the future of the industry.
As the architecture, engineering, and construction industry continues to move toward more integration, collaboration across disciplines becomes even more essential to project success. At Alvine Engineering, Tim leads by example, proactively reaching out to other team members throughout the design process. He also encourages younger engineers to make new connections and learn from other disciplines so that they might become well-rounded team members with innovative ideas.
