ACEC Awards: Alvine Engineering Earns Honors and Category Winner

OMAHA, NE — Alvine Engineering is proud to announce that both of our project submissions, The Nebraska State Capitol HVAC and Window Repair Restoration project and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s (UNL) Scott Engineering Addition and Renovation project, were selected to receive ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards in their 2025 award cycle. Both projects will receive honor awards, and the Nebraska State Capitol project will also receive the “Category Winner” distinction in the Building & Technology Systems category.

The judging panel for the ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards grades submissions based on five unique criteria: design complexity, unique and innovative engineering applications, sustainable design considerations, future value to the engineering profession, and the successful fulfillment of client needs. Judges were impressed by the innovative engineering utilized within the Nebraska State Capitol. The project balanced interior aesthetics with eco-conscious mechanical engineering practices to deliver a sustainable project that will serve the building for decades. The judging panel also admired the innovative modernization strategies utilized within the laboratory spaces in the Scott Engineering Center. Furthermore, the judges appreciated Alvine Engineering’s dedication to client satisfaction within both projects and our firm’s ability to coordinate with architects, contractors, and other engineers to deliver high-performing designs.

Paul Bauman P.E., LEED AP BD+C, is a senior project manager with Alvine Engineering who served as the lead mechanical engineer on the Nebraska State Capitol Project. Steph Guy P.E., F.AEI, LEED AP, was the project manager for the Scott Engineering Center, while Gene Neemann served as the lead electrical designer, and Reggie Wittgren was a project mechanical designer.

Both awards will be presented at ACEC’s Annual Award Gala, hosted in Waterloo, Nebraska, on April 24.
