PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The March 2013 bond issue led the North Bend Public Schools District to make additions to the high school and elementary school. Both of the projects ran simultaneously and were only located about a mile apart. For the high school, the bond issue included a new competition gym, varsity locker rooms, a dedicated athletic entrance, concessions, athletic storage, a science wing, and an expansion of administrative office space. At the elementary school, the additions included a multipurpose gymnasium with concessions and associated storage.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- In the new high school, science labs are served by gas-fired, DX-cooling, single-zone rooftop units that include hot gas reheat to provide dehumidification control. Labs have fume hoods that either exhaust to the outside or recirculate into the space.
- The science labs have hot and cold water and gas at each table, including the teacher demonstration table. A manual shutoff valve is provided at the teacher demonstration table in each lab, allowing the teacher to shut off the gas to the student tables.
- A distilled water system was included to provide distilled water in one or both of the prep rooms.
- The existing locker area includes a hot gas reheat to provide dehumidification control.
- New rooftop units were installed in the gymnasium additions, including DX cooling, gas-fired heat, energy recovery, dehumidification control, and CO2 demand ventilation. The new units are located on the lower roof to provide easier access.
- Exterior lighting was provided to illuminate the perimeter areas of the new additions. Lighting is now LED-type and is controlled by photocell for dusk-to-dawn operation.
- Designed telecommunications system cabling.
- Designed raceway and power connections for door access control.
- Designed standard school clock, intercom, paging, and gym sound systems.
