PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Franklin School is a first-rate early childhood development center that required a precise design to help deliver on the organization’s initiatives. The Franklin School is a part of the larger Northside redevelopment initiative to restore infrastructure and create a thriving community. Designed to aid in the development of children from six weeks to five years, the facility features window walls, extra-wide hallways, and an outdoor playground accessible from all classrooms. The building also incorporates informal spaces between classrooms to encourage children to discover and learn. The main exterior feature is the multi-colored glass-clad form rising above the building, which serves as a beacon for community members to see and identify as a place for young learners.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

• Coordinated the location of mechanical equipment in a centralized location on the roof to screen it from view.
• Included mechanical and plumbing features tailored to the needs of early childhood facilities, such as localized exhaust air, laundry, toy sanitizers, and plumbing fixtures at a toddler’s height.
