Alvine Engineering Wins Two 2023 IES Illumination Awards
Omaha, NE – The Illuminating Engineering Society‘s (IES) Illumination Award judging panel has selected two Alvine Engineering projects as “Award of Merit” winners in the Interior Lighting category. Alvine Engineering is the only engineering firm submitting to the Omaha IES chapter to win two Illumination Awards in 2023.
The two projects, The Farnam Hotel and an undisclosed corporate office high-rise were reviewed by a highly-decorated panel of architectural lighting judges who deemed the interior lighting of the submitted projects to be “commendable contributions to the field of lighting design.” Michelle Eble-Hankins, Ph.D., P.E., LC, and Ben Williams, LC, were lead design contributors on both projects.
The Farnam Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel in Downtown Omaha’s Landmark Center. Alvine Engineering’s architectural lighting team coordinated custom luminaire designs for the hotel’s lobby, gathering spaces, fine-dining restaurant, and bar. The lighting fixtures converge with the hotel’s design vision, inspired by Omaha’s agrarian and industrial roots, with the show-stopping flair guests anticipate with a 4-star hotel experience.
“Being recognized for an IES Illumination Award is a culmination of the entire project team’s hard work and determination to bring the design of the space to life,” Ben explained, “For the Farnam, it was a chance to bring a unique, luxury hotel experience to downtown Omaha.”
The undisclosed corporate office high-rise is a project in Nashville, Tennessee, where the developers envisioned each floor highlighting a different attribute of Nashville’s geographical identity and unique culture. The job of the architectural lighting team was to support each floor’s unique identity while adhering to one thematic umbrella. The lighting also serves open-space work areas to deliver healthy, productive work environments for its occupants.
The awards were officially announced on August 3rd to kick off the IES Annual Conference. For the full list of award winners, click here.
