PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The renovation of the existing space into the new University of Nebraska—Lincoln’s Sapp Recreation Center was part of the university’s “YES 2 Better Rec Center” referendum. It included improving traffic flow and doubling the free weight zone. The renovation project also included new machine weights, treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes, and flooring.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Replaced the existing fitness center AHU to serve the existing and added fitness area.
  • The design team relocated the existing floor-mounted AHU serving existing offices.
  • Reworked piping in the existing Outdoor Adventure Center storage to provide additional overhead clearance.
  • Modified and added ductwork to serve the existing and new fitness center areas.
  • The design team modified the outside air shaft to provide outside air for ventilation.
  • Replaced pneumatic controls with electronic controls for the modified HVAC systems.
  • Reworked existing plumbing pipes in the ceiling of the new fitness center area to provide clear space for structure.
  • The Alvine Engineering electrical design team replaced and expanded the existing lighting with new energy-efficient LED lighting.
  • The existing fire alarm system was expanded into the renovated area.
  • Expanded the power distribution system to serve treadmills and other fitness equipment that require power connections.
