PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Alvine Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design for the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney. During the fundraising and construction phases, the congregation worshiped at a local school; however, the completion of the building provided a dedicated worship space to over 1,000 families in a growing community.

Program spaces on the main level include a sanctuary, chapel, balcony, narthex, sacristy, restrooms, and stair/elevator. The basement has a multipurpose room, offices, mechanical/electrical room, restrooms, and a classroom.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

• The heating and cooling system is a single zone constant volume system consisting of two 30-ton modular air handling units installed in the basement mechanical rooms.
• Control systems include economizer cycle and power exhaust.
• Heating consists of gas-fired duct furnaces installed in the supply air ductwork downstream from the air handlers.
• A new natural gas service (with a capacity of approximately 1100 cfh) was installed to provide fuel for the furnaces and water heater.
• Custom pendant lighting fixtures were designed and specified for the sanctuary to complement the architecture of the building.
• A complete theatrical dimming system was designed for the sanctuary to provide flexibility for multiple uses and activities in the space.
• The building includes a full fire suppression system.
• A lightning protection system was specified to provide an extra measure of protection for the entire building.
• Decorative exterior lighting was utilized to enhance the building’s architecture and provide security for parishioners.
