PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The School of Nursing is a top-ranked, world-recognized program committed to improving the health and well-being of patients through education, research and service. The 75,000-square-foot facility accommodates instructional spaces, a conference center, lecture halls that convert easily to small group learning, health assessment, task training, clinical skills, and faculty offices.
Key features of the new building include active learning classrooms, a technologically-rich clinical learning center with simulation and skills labs, and simulated patient suites.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- LEED Gold. Building was designed to save 30% more energy than code required. Significant energy savings were provided from the chilled beam system and all LED lighting systems serving the building.
- High-efficiency gas-fired boilers provide hot water for air handling unit heating coils, perimeter fin tube, and duct heating coils.
- High-efficiency water-cooled screw-type chillers with primary/secondary pumping provide chilled water to the air handling unit cooling coils.
- A water-to-water heat exchanger was utilized to provide 58º water to the chilled beam loop in the building.
- Emergency power is supplied by a natural gas generator located on the roof.
- Technology pathway infrastructure and spaces for clinical learning involving a simulation-based laboratory to support video capture and management software.
- Spaces were designed to accommodate simulation mannequins and two-way virtual observation. Electrical system was designed to simulate a power outage in the simulation areas.
- Telecommunications and audiovisual systems cable pathway and space design.
- Electronic access control and video surveillance systems rough-in and pathway design.
- Nurse call system.
