The RiverFront: Gene Leahy Mall
LOCATION
Omaha, Nebraska
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
As a part of The RiverFront revitalization development, the transformed Gene Leahy Mall spans from 13th to 8th streets in the heart of downtown Omaha. The iconic park has been a part of Omaha’s history since the 1970s and now the redevelopment includes adding over 40,000-square-feet of lawn space, a performance pavilion for various types of entertainment, a sculpture garden, a playground, and a dog park.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Alvine Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design for the restrooms located between the Arches Playground and the Performance Pavilion.
- The restroom building functions as the utility hub for the entire Gene Leahy Mall site, serving as the central connection for conduits, pipes, and more for services like gas, water, electrical, and telecommunications.
- The team provided connections for all site lighting and some lighting controls, as well as site distribution and power for food trucks along a stretch of 10th street.
- Alvine Engineering provided power to many of the water features including the cascade fountain, pond, and boat cove, as well as fiber to control the features.
- The electrical team designed company switches for both the Performance Pavilion and a small stage area located on the 8th Street Green.
- The team provided power and control capabilities for the projectors located in the Performance Pavilion area used for performances and projecting onto buildings.
- Alvine Engineering designed a system that uses devices scattered throughout the park to distribute an even wireless internet signal around the entirety of the mall. The devices were strategically placed in discreet locations to keep from distracting from the overall aesthetic of the park.
- An underground telecommunications fiber loop system supports security cameras and wireless devices around Gene Leahy Mall. It features two connections to the service throughout the park, providing redundancy.
